Score: 0

As part of a new strategy to help keep the content fresh around here, Lars and I developed theme weeks. This week, it's all Genesis, all the time baby. Look for a ton of new stuff to appear soon on the main page, and remember.... Genesis does, what Nintendon't.

I remember being a kid, and having JUSSSST enough money to get the Genesis (and hoping that Altered Beast would keep me busy for a while).

My brother, being old enough to drive, offered to go out and pick it up for me at Toys R Us. I had saved for a long time, and was freaking out pretty much the entire time that he was gone (waiting for him to come back).

He comes back about an hour later... and hands me my money back. "What happened?" I asked, as he walked through the door (an armload lighter than he should have been). Turns out, I was less than $3 short, and he was broke, so he couldn't front me the money.

I had to wait another week for my allowance or baby sitting money or whatever - it was excruciating.  Sitting a couple bucks away from a Genny was just awful.

For the next several months, I didn't own a game, either - I rented all my games. But yeah, I still use my first gen Genesis....

^Nice writeup. I got mine a couple of years after it came out...it was July '91, if I remember correctly. I sold my Master System for it (something I regret now, but most of the games that I had for it weren't that good [I had bought it from someone else]) and snagged Ms. Pac-Man with it. Some good times with that and Sonic, it's pack-in at the time.

Nice to have a Genny week, it's pretty cool!

About six years ago I was in my local Toys 'R' Us rooting around clearance bins. That night they had a filthy box with a Genesis 3 priced at $10.90, several copies of Castlevania Bloodlines for $5.90 and extra controllers for $2.90.

That might have been the best deal I got that year.

I remember the weird guy that lived downstairs from us got a Genesis when it came out.  He was the only person I knew that had one.  We could never have afforded one.  We'd just managed to scrape up the cash to get me an NES for Christmas that year so there was no chance at all of getting a Genesis.  The weird guy invited me in to see it that week and it was the most awesome thing in the ever.  Altered Beast sounded amazing and Space Harrier was doing things I'd never seen on a TV.  My mother found out I was in his apartment about a half hour in and dragged me out by my face.  Every time I walked past his door I was one step away from knocking so I could see more of the Genesis.

Two months later the guy skipped out on the rent and disappeared.  Two weeks after that the Police were questioning us about him.  Apparently he fled after being accused of molesting several boys in his old neighborhood.

I still remember those two games and how awesome it felt to play them for the first time.  The rest of that memory is all tied up in the awkwardness of knowing what he was most likely trying to do by buying the thing.

You obviously haven't played the Sonic game on the 360 and the PS3.  It's awful.

I have high hopes for the Wii version of Sonic, though.

I used to love Sonic.  It makes me sad that it's not that good of a game any more.
