So Club Nintendo was unveiled a little while back. I was certainly excited to hear that I could earn shiny, shiny coins from my shelves of recently-purchased Nintendo products. From games, to consoles, to accessories, I expected to start earning 1-up after 1-up thanks to my soon-to-be hundreds of coins. After about an hour of entering product codes (or what I THOUGHT were product codes) I discovered that only two of my 20+ items were accepted by the site...Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Play. Not the Wii console, not the Guitar Hero Full Band Set, not Mario Kart Wii, not any remote accessories...the list goes on.
What a pathetic attempt by Nintendo to basically force customers into taking endless surveys for free market research and give them absolute shit in return. Out of the hundreds of dollars I spent supporting their products, when most gamers simply dismiss the Wii as a failed console, I have earned 100 total coins, which will buy me one FIFTH of a deck of Nintendo-branded playing cards. And that's the least crappy of the crappy NINE total reward items I have access to on their site.
Thumbs down to Nintendo for this shameful display of "rewarding" their faithful followers. It's a clear window into why they are losing fans day after day. Certainly millions of sales proves their marketing strategies are well-established, but with most campaigns, they are hollow and meaningless after your money is in their hands.
