This might seem like an awkward topic, but I'd love to know other people's opinions regarding the Mac vs. PC commercials that are littering broadcast television.

I'm the first to appreciate a very creative and humorous marketing campaign (beer commercials will forever be close to my heart), but isn't it also amusing that nearly all these clips blatantly suggest that Macs are geared towards stupid people? Before any Mac owners get insulted, I certainly don't mean Macs suck or that if you own a Mac you ARE a stupid person. That said, their prime arguments for purchasing a Mac seem to be the following:

- Macs are popular, so they must be good (I think genital herpes follows the same theory)
- Windows is hard, you are dumb, use a Mac (dummy)
- Macs are hip, so they will make you hip (Disclaimer: Your hipness may vary)
- Windows is only for stereotypically oily business men ( I didn't think Blizzard entertainment was owned by Bill Gates?)

I'd love to make some counter commericals that aren't obviously ANTI-Mac, but that simply use some facts that Mac is very hesitant to mention...such as their ludicrous pricing, horrible network support, and six-month lag in video game releases. I'm really a slighted Windows fan because with my design background I've had to use both platforms and can contest that they suck equally.

I've been a Mac user my whole life, and I love the OSX.  I also support a massive Windows network for a living.  I can say with confidence that Windows blows.  That being said, Apples high hardware prices and proprietary BS also blow.  If you have the cash, buy the Mac.  Otherwise lrn2linux and pirate Windows if you really need it.  But you really don't.

Well, I've programmed for Apple products, and I've programmed for Microsoft products.  Thus far, I've found life to be much easier on the Microsoft side of the fence, as I'm a fan of Visual Studio.

That said, I really enjoy the iPod, I really like the iTouch and iPhone...  But I don't have much experience with OSX.  Basically, I'm pretty power hungry, and you just don't get the same bang for your buck that you do with plain-jane PC stuff.

Linux is OK.  I have to be honest though, it's created more problems for me than its solved.  Heck, just this year I had a whole big thing with this NAS device...  don't get me started.  Linux kernel with no console.  Stupid thing.

Never programmed in a Linux environment.  I should do that some time.

Mac exploits the stupidity of their audience by focusing on the trendy "my parents bought it for me" crowd. That and those PC/Mac commercials,  while entertaining, are blatant lies in almost all cases. Because of those reasons, Apple deserves to go out of business. I've used Mac and Windows on both personal and professional levels and its clear that Macs serve absolutely no purpose other than to make people go "ooo, shiny".

Don't get me wrong, I'm no hardcore fan of Windows either, but when it comes to anything computer related...design, development, gaming, general office tasks, multitasking, etc... I've never experienced one benefit of choosing Mac over PC. More expensive and less under the hood...seems like a no-brainer to me.

Oh, and PS. "Because Windows blows" isn't a valid reason as to why people SHOULD use a Mac.
