Move over Mel Gibson. There’s a new Max in this crazy, post apocalyptic world and he is a bad ass!
Tom Hardy, best know for his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, has inherited the role of Max Rockatansky in this 4th installment of the Mad Max series. He’s a tortured soul who is struggling to deal with the loss of his wife and daughter while also trying to survive in a vast wasteland where food and water are almost non-existent. His character doesn’t have a lot of dialog in the movie but his lack of conversation is compensated by the sheer amount of ass whoopin’ that he lays down.
A few minutes into the film, Max’s path crosses that of Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. Furiosa is fleeing the same people who had been holding Max prisoner. After realizing that they share a common goal of escaping the clutches of this sadistic group, they team up and the movie really takes off.
Mad Max: Fury Road is an insane, adrenalin fueled, non-stop, balls to the wall, action flick. While I felt like the story development was a bit lacking, there is no denying how much fun this movie was to watch! It’s frantic pace, unparalleled action, and beautifully eerie scenery kept me glued to the screen. When you boil everything down, it’s basically one giant, action packed chase scene that lasts 2 hours. Oh...and do yourself a favor and pay the extra few dollars to see this in 3D, if not IMAX 3D. This is one movie you won’t regret it on. The explosions, car wrecks, etc. are WELL worth it.
After watching this film, I’m really excited about the potential of the upcoming Mad Max video game. Originally slated to be released in conjunction with the film, the game has been pushed out to September so that some lingering issues can be ironed out. Recently released game footage looks almost as pretty as the movie itself. If the game is even half as fun as the movie was, it might end up being the best disk released on the next-gen systems to date.
