UPDATE: The specifications posted below were briefly posted on the Ubisoft store site but have been removed. More recently, representatives from Ubisoft (graphics technical director) have taken to Twitter to state that official specs are coming and are lower than the below.
The Watch Dogs PC system requirements start out reasonably, but get a little ridiculous, especially since the examples given don't match their own statements about CPU power. It seems that Windows 32bit is on its last legs as well. Matching a few other system specifications, the Watch Dogs system specs state that only a 64bit copy of Windows will be acceptable to run the game. Ubisoft released the following specifications for Watch Dogs.
The basic system requirements for Watch Dogs are:
- Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8; Note only support 64 bit OSs
- DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM Dual Layer
- Hard Drive Space: 20 GB
- Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card with Latest Drivers
- Internet: Broadband connection and service required for multiplayer mode
The minimum specification is actually fairly reasonable except for hard drive space (20GB? Holy Cow!) although the venerable 8800GT from NVidia has finally been shut out of a game; this card doesn't match the minimum spec for the game.
To run Watch Dogs, you need a Direct X 11 GPU with 1GB RAM, a quad core CPU, and 4GB of RAM. Here are some examples of components that meet the minimum:
GPUs: NVidia GTX 460, Radeon 5770
CPUs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, AMD Phenom X4 975
The recommended spec is a graphics card with 2GB of RAM, an 8 core CPU, and 8GB of RAM. Here's where it gets interesting - although an Intel i7 is a quad core with hyperthreading, Ubisoft matches it to their "8 core" recommended CPU list.
Examples of GPU and CPU to run Watch Dogs:
GPU: NVidia 560ti, Radeon 7850
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770, AMD FX-8350 Eight Core
The Ultra spec is even more demanding, asking for a ridiculously powerful Intel CPU, and in an odd move, recommending a less powerful AMD CPU. The Ultra specification is a new DirectX 11 GPU with 2GB RAM and one of the latest 8 core processors, with at least 8GB of RAM.
Examples in this spec:
GPU: NVidia 670, Radeon 7970
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K, FX-9370 Eight Core
Once you get to the recommended level and above for this game, it's pretty clear that the real spec is "newest components you can afford" .
