Battlefield 4 Open Beta Today - Everyone Can Play! (#BF4)

Battlefield 4

Electronic Arts has announced the start of the Battlefield 4 Beta for all comers.  The exclusive Beta, which had run since October 1, allowed folks with Medal of Honor or Battlefield Premium to play a few days early.  The Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta will feature a map called "The Siege of Shanghai".  The map will enable players to use helicopters to cruise around the city, and boats to cruise along the outskirts.  Players that participate in the BF4 beta get a cool dog tag that says "Was There, Did That".

To play the beta on PC, you will need to have a 64bit version of Windows - although the released game will support 32bit, the beta does not.

EA will also be testing an additional anti-cheating measure:

We are happy to let you know that we have increased our protection against cheaters to not only use PunkBuster, but we will also work side by side with Gameblocks, who will provide us with their anti-cheat engine FairFight. We believe that the FairFight engine will be a great complement to the anti-cheat measures already in play. During the Beta we will try out both FairFight and PunkBuster to make the experience as good as possible for our players.

On October 29, the game hits full release for PC, Xbox 360, and PS4.  EA has also announced that BF4 will release on November 12 on PS4 - a couple of days before the console comes out!

If you purchase Battlefield 4 on the current generation of consoles, your weapons and experience carry over from Xbox 360 and PS3 to the Xbox One and PS4:

  • Playing early on the Xbox 360 or PS3 means you will be able to learn maps, unlock items, and build stats in Battlefield 4; or create your Ultimate Teams and more in FIFA 14 and Madden NFL 25.  You can then seamlessly carry over a lot of cool content from the current gen game to a new Xbox One or PS4 version to get a jump on the competition.
  • Offers from many of our retail partners will help you buy Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 or Madden NFL 25 on the Xbox 360 or PS3, and then upgrade to an Xbox One or PS4 version for as little as $10.

Electronic Arts has released via Twitter the system requirements and recommendations for Battlefield 4, which you can see in our article on that topic.

The minimum graphics requirements for Battlefield 4 aren't much changed from the Battlefield 3 minimum requirements:

Windows Vista, an Athlon X2 (2.8 Ghz) or an Intel Core2Duo (at 2.4Ghz), 4GB RAM, and a 8800GT (or Radeon 3870).  Those graphics cards need a minimum of 512MB of memory.

Check out some of the highlights of battle with this Video:

The recommended requirements take quite a jump however.  EA recommends Windows 8, a quad core processor, and a GeForce 660 (or Radeon 7870)...  but with 3GB of video RAM.  Interestingly, the default configuration of the recommended video cards simply do not have 3GB of VRAM on them.  You'd either have to get a special variation of the card, or you'd need to move up in the food chain of video cards.

There's also no word on what "recommended" actually means.  Is that "High" settings?  "Ultra" settings?

In the case of Battlefield 3, the recommended video card was a GTX 560 with 1GB RAM.  The 560Ti was able to play the game at "High" settings at approximately 60fps, and the normal 560 wasn't always hitting an average of 60fps.

Guess we'll begin to find out how the game performs once the Beta comes out!

DICE needs to change system requirements
Im running a 1100t, 16gb ddr3 and amd 7970 yet i cant run on ultra and get a decent framerate. It plays great on high setting but I think DICE should make new requirements because I assumed I could run ultra smoothly based off their recommendation.

Bf3 ultra problems were mostly multiplayer server issues, the flu and flu simply sat around waiting a lot of the time. I could play ultra with 1090t and 7950 but regularly experienced "rubber banding" with mp
