This isn't exactly an error per se, but I wasn't sure where to put this. I was wondering if there was going to be a method implemented to correct, expand, or clarify any Ask the Community questions. For instance, today someone answered a question about how to get the jelly things off the Deku Tree in the Wind Waker. The answer given was to 'row into the tree', which is close, but a clarified answer would be to 'roll into the tree'. Perhaps making the Ask the Community page into the forums so each question could be discussed would be one solution.

Not a super-critical issue, but something that's been on my mind for a while.

Yeah, it needs to be better - but I don't know what to do about it.  The problem is really mis-information, I guess.  I suppose it'd be good to put in some way of expanding answers, but would that increase the amount of bad info?

Perhaps. Maybe there should be a way to flag the answer for review? Or a way to vote on the accuracy or helpfulness of the answer given?

Put a tag on it, people with admin access can edit it? Kind of like a post? That way people can report errors and the admins can fix them. Like game info etc.

This question is on the ATC page: "how can i get another masterball when i allready used mine "

The answer given is incorrect. You get another Master Ball if you win the lottery at the Lillycove Department Store, however, you have an extremely low chance to do so.

would a better solution be to have like...  an anonymous forum for each game?

And - thanks for the answer, I'll see if I can update.

I think one for each game might be overkill. One for each system might work pretty well, though.

So, I decided to take some time to look at the Ask the Community section this morning.

It was all sorts of messed up.  Halo 2 had about 3 dozen questions !!!  NONE of which had anything at all to do with Halo 2.  I think pixelSHREDDER might have gotten a bit overzealous in approving stuff.  So I corrected all of those.  I also made some new admin tools, and I've got some good ideas for more - including, like you said, a way for logged in users to help admin the questions.

They definitely need help, I'll tell you that much.

I took care of approximately 200 items this morning, and all the Halo 2 questions...  So I kicked a little ass.

LOL- I think pixelSHREDDER might have gotten a bit overzealous in approving stuff.

Naw, what I'm seeing is a lot of posters, for some reason, using Halo 2 to ask questions for other games. So i figured, I'd approve them, then change the game they belong to later. But I've been Father Time's bitch, lately, so that hasn't happened much.

I've been noticing that there are a lot of duplicate questions showing up on the Ask the Community page, specifically:

  • Where can I buy (probably rare) Game X?
  • I need a walkthrough for Game X.
  • What are Game Shark/Game Genie/Action Replay codes for effect Y on Game X?
  • Why won't (probably ficticious) Code Z that I found on some random website work?
  • How do I get into the pirate ship in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker? (a.k.a. How do you treat a shark?)
  • Where can I download a copy of/get a serial number for Game X for free?
  • What level does Pokemon A evolve?
  • Can Pokemon A learn Move B?
  • When is Game X coming out (in my country)?
  • Some question about how to play Stick RPG.
  • Some question about how to play Johnny Rocketfingers.
  • How do I get lots of money/some rare item in Animal Crossing/Animal Crossing: Wild World.
  • Misc. other legitimate questions.

Would it be worthwhile to put together some kind of FAQ to address some of these? That way we can refer people to a FAQ that has a reasonably detailed answer instead of rehashing the same answer over and over?

Um... is that a tacit 'no', or a 'yes, but nobody wants to take the time to compile such a ducument', or something else entirely?

Oh, larson probably just forgot to comment. You know how it is, there's quite a few times here and there where you have to post a problem in the Errors forum a few times before it gets fixed.

Yes, a FAQ would be worthwhile.

No, there's no way I have time to compile one (writing this at 1am... getting up at 6am... so yeah, schedule is tough). If you'd like to, I would be ecstatic to include it on the site.

Tonight I put "underlayment" on my floor. I totally screwed it up in preparation for new linoleum. It's awful - I've never even mixed a bag of cement, and... well, you can guess how my floor looks right now.

Ugh. "Oh you should do that yourself. It's easy!"

Erm...

can you show me how to use the gameshark for pokemon emerald step by step? (Game: Pokemon Emerald)
(Answered 8/29/2006 7:51:31 AM): Answer Courtesy of hjhjh: blupabloo

I think the accuracy of that answer may be suspect...

So, I've been noticing that a lot of Ask the Community questions are under the wrong games. Katharsis (http://www.stageselect.com/games/game.aspx?gameid=19407), for example, has several questions, all of which are for games that are not Katharsis. Any idea why this is happening? Would it be possible to maybe make an Admin tool or even a Gold Member tool to move the question to the appropriate game, if it can be divined from the question?

Awesome! Thanks! I love it when something that I think should exist already does exist.

Two of them are for pokemon games, but I'm not sure which ones. The Ho-oh question could be for Gold, Silver, Crystal (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex/250.shtml), Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Colosseum, or XD (http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-rs/250.shtml). The other one could be for any of the Pokemon games, the question doesn't really make it clear.

The 'nightmare Broly' one is for some Dragonball Z game, but again, I'm not sure which one.

OK I'll work on them some more, I'll prob just zap those other questions. Keep me informed via this thread, I'll try to work on the "community" a little more.

Unfortunately I don't know the answers to a lot of these games, but I should be able to edit wrong answers move stuff around etc.

Got em. Just wound up zapping all three. In cases like that, I usually just delete them, rather than trying to match them up. If it's a Pokemon question, odds are it's been asked already, or will be at some point.

Sweet was this Katharsis an isolated incident? Or are a lot of the questions all mixed up like this?
